surfpad mangamaunu

surfpad mangamaunu, the home of surfing tribe, is a simple wee surf haven on the beach in mangamaunu bay, 10 minutes north of kaikoura where the highway meets the sea. there is a beautiful right hand point break that you can see from the living room, kitchen, one of the bedrooms, bathroom and deck.

have breakfast on the green park bench on the beach or beers and vino at night beside the sea, watching the stars and listening to the sound of the pacific ocean.

nestled beside beautiful totara and pohutukawa trees means that the plentiful birdlife in the garden includes tui, piwakawaka and korimako. through the summer months, the local new zealand (hectors) dolphins and dusky dolphins visit the bay regularly and from may through winter to september, you're less than a ten minute drive to the magical seal pup waterfall pool at ohau point.

kaikoura is a place well known for it's beautiful kaimoana and being right beside the mighty hikurangi trench, it is an area known for the rich variety of marine life and regular presence of a wide range of whales and dolphins. paua can be found at one end of the beach, mussels the other (at mussel rock).  there is no cell phone coverage in the house so you'll need to walk out on the beach or climb onto the roof to get connected.

you're up close and personal with the railway so it helps if you like trains when you stay there.
