new zealanders spent over $60 million on bottled water in 2012. not only is bottled water 2,000 times the price of regular tap water, but it is also one of the biggest global contributors to environmental damage. each year we throw away millions of disposable, single use plastic drink bottles. many of these are not recycled and end up in landfills, taking hundreds of years to decompose. or worse, they find their way into waterways, seas and oceans, where they pose a very real threat to baleen feeding marine mammals, who may die through ingesting this waste.
help reduce the amount of single use plastic bottles in the environment by purchasing one of project jonah's stylish new drink bottles.
project jonah is a charity that exist for one simple reason – marine mammals desperately need our help. their vision is to create a world where these animals are respected and protected and to achieve this they need your support.
their strength comes from their volunteers; everyday kiwis that give up their time to help marine mammals through our rescue, action and protection programs. whether they’re picking up litter on beaches or getting hands on in rescuing stranded whales, they’re out there helping. whatever the weather.
they’re a new zealand organisation, with a distinct flavour and feel and as a voluntary organisation they need to do a lot with a little. with nz's distant location they’ve had to develop unique and better ways of getting things done. they've pioneered whale rescue techniques, and have shared this technology and expertise with the rest of the world. much of their work comes from a practical ‘let’s just do it’ approach.
at the heart of project jonah is a passionate belief that caring about marine mammals is simply the right thing to do. they care about the welfare of these animals; their suffering and their needs. and though we make decisions using our heads, we do what we do because our hearts are connected with this absolutely vital work.
project jonah believe that both animals and people matter. whilst the animals are central to what we do, it’s people that make our work possible. new zealand can lead the world in marine mammal welfare and protection.
